Getting the Ball Rolling

A charity evening raised £150,000 to buy 40 wheelchairs for children with Muscular dystrophy.

The Buttercup Ball, held in the Hilton Hotel last Saturday was organised by a committee of 11 mums whose children have been treated in Yorkhill Hospital.

As well as being on the committee, Rosie Brawley, 35, from Giffnock, is the founder of Yorkhill Muscle Fund (YMF). Her son Ben, seven, sufferes from muscular dystrophy and Rosie was delighted with the generous support at the ball.

She said “The NHS budget allocation is £100 per child per wheelchair – you can imagine how far that goes.

“There are 100 children who attend Yorkhill that need specially adapted wheelchairs so the money raised makes great inroads into that.

“As well as everyone who donated money I would like to thank Corum estate agents which supported us for £50,000.”

This year’s ball was the second Buttercup event, with the total money raised so far standing at £200,000.

Anyone wishing to donate to YMF should call Sandra McCusker at Yorkhill Hospital on 0141 201 0795./p>
